  • FOREIGN SERVICE ACADEMY PREPARES KENYA’S NEW DIPLOMATIC ENVOYS FOR GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT

The Foreign Service Academy (FSA), led by Ag. Director General Amb. Patrick Wamoto, today concluded a two-week induction training for newly appointed Ambassadors, Consuls General and other Senior Government officials held at Academy’s Boardroom in 316 Upperhill chambers.

The induction programme was opened by the Ambassador of Finland to Kenya H.E Pirkka Tapiola who spoke to the envoys about the changing nature of diplomacy in the 21st Century.

Anchored on Kenya’s Foreign Policy 2024, the induction course aimed to equip the envoys with the knowledge and skills needed to implement the policy, represent the country effectively, and uphold its strategic interests across the key pillars of peace, economic, diaspora, environmental, and cultural diplomacy.

Key thematic topics included the structure and function of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, the impact of technology and new media on diplomatic practice, and other areas of diplomacy.

The training also highlighted Kenya’s vision of promoting Nairobi as a leading multilateral diplomatic hub. With its status as host to key international institutions, which include UNON, UNEP, and HABITAT, Nairobi is well-positioned to serve as a centre for global dialogue, and the envoys were encouraged to champion this role in their respective missions abroad.

Other key areas covered included global geopolitics, the evolving multilateral system, consular services, international negotiation, and mission management. The sessions were facilitated by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, experienced diplomats, and experts in international relations.

In his closing remarks, Amb. Wamoto emphasized the importance of professionalism, patriotism, and adaptability in diplomacy. He reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to developing a capable and globally competitive foreign service.
