The Ag. Director – General of the Foreign Service Academy Amb.Patrick Wamoto, today presided over the official closure of a two-week induction course for officers assigned to Kenyan missions abroad.

Speaking during the ceremony, Amb. Wamoto stated that diplomacy is dynamic and foreign service officers must continuously be trained in order to enhance their capacity to perform

The DG underscored the importance of diplomats building their skills in technology in order to integrate traditional diplomatic skills with knowledge in technologies , economics, trade, and crisis management.

“There is a need to understand AI governance, cybersecurity, and many other emerging issues across the globe,” he stated.

Beyond English and Kiswahili, Amb. Wamoto encouraged the officers to take advantage of their postings to learn foreign languages such as French, Spanish, and Chinese, among others.

He also urged the newly posted officers to build mentorship relationships with colleagues who are on their second or third postings.

Wamoto called on the diplomats to take their work seriously and to foster a strong leadership culture, which will enable them to keep pace with the dynamic nature of diplomacy.

The officers are expected to to report to their new stations in the next few weeks and months
